On War

It’s sad to think that humankind
is so resolved to be so blind
to all the people dead or maimed
and all the misery that’s blamed
on war.
I cannot for my life conceive
how all these years men still believe
so strongly in their faiths that they
continue wasting lives away
on war.
It certainly is sheer despair
and lack of education there
and leaders who’ll say anything
and not the followers who bring
on war.
Without a Holy War to fight
the Middle Eastern leaders might
have no direction to their lives
and so their focus, thus, arrives
on war.
On war the heads of state get rich
while soldiers dying in a ditch
are told their countries they defend
when, really, heads of state depend
on war.
I wonder if Allah today
were here to see his children’s way
of following the things he taught
would he be glad his teachings brought
on war?
The children of all prophets must
discover that all faiths are just
and not blame faith ‘ere it’s too late
but learn to blame their Holy Hate
on war.
I’d like to cause a world-wide lapse
of memory and then perhaps
the soldiers, thus, could not recall
the hate that caused their minds to fall
on war.
It seems that only time will bring
the bell that someday has to ring.
For we are only but lost souls
until the death bell finally tolls
on war.
